Individual: HC

Sex: male

Age: 20–25 years according to dentition and epiphyseal union (the medial epiphysis of the clavicle is unfused, the spheno-occipital synchondrosis is fused); according to suture closure the man is aged (30–) 40 years.

Burial Type: primary flexed right

Orientation of Burial: Orientation: ENE

Description: The articulated burial was lying on the right side with the head pointing to the northeast. The legs were bent and the right hand lay on the knees. The distal part of the left forearm was lost. The back of the skeleton sustained damage through disturbance. Snail shells were adherent to the cranium. More snail shells found around the hip formed a ‘loincloth’. A carnelian bead was discovered with the second vertebra. Viewed from top, the cranium is ovoid in shape, and viewed from norma occipitalis, it is house-shaped revealing a prominent external occipital protuberance. The endocranial surface reveals marked granular foveae along the sagittal suture. The inferior margin of the nasal aperture is sharp edged. The mandible displays a very large left mental foramen. The left humerus is somewhat stronger developed than the right one reflecting left-handedness. The skull reveals a premature synostosis (craniosynostosis) of the sagittal suture. As a consequence, the shape of the cranial vault is extremely long and narrow (scaphocephalic skull). The premature closure of the cranial suture explains the differences in age estimation from the cranium on one hand and the dentition and closure of the epiphyses on the other hand. Body Height Estimation: 173,00 (Trotter & Gleser 1952).
