Aufstände in Konstantinopel (330-602 n. Chr.)

Abstract

Seit dem 4. Jahrhundert n. Chr. wurde Konstantinopel immer wieder Schauplatz schwerer Unruhen und Aufstände. Besonders die konstantinopolitanische Bevölkerung entlud ihren Zorn in gewaltsamen Aktionen, die ein permanentes Bedrohungspotenzial für die Herrscher darstellten. Die Arbeit bietet eine chronologische Zusammenstellung aller Gewalteruptionen in Konstantinopel und vergleicht sie mit denjenigen in anderen Städten des Oströmischen Reiches unter der Fragestellung, ob die Aufstände in Konstantinopel wirklich etwas Besonderes waren.

Since the 4th Century AD Constantinople has been faced with heavy unrests and riots. Especially people from the city caused violent actions which were permanently threatening the Emperor. This study provides a chronological collection of all violent events in Constantinople and a comparison with those of other cities from the Eastern Roman Empire. The question is, if the unrests and riots in Constantinople are really something special.
