Abstract:

The design of chronological and typological charts is often time consuming and diverts the researcher’s focus from the actual chronology to the design process. ChronochRt extents the popular programming language R and its visualisation package ggplot2 to speed up the design of chronological charts significantly. It allows chronological and typological charts to be designed and updated in a replicative way from chronological datasets with self-contained chronological units of a defined structure. The basic concepts and functionalities of ChronochRt are discussed. Two examples, a chronological and a typological chart, demonstrate typical workflows and the customisation of chronological charts.
