Abstract:
Cognitive linguistics has developed especially in the field of semantics. This contribution examines the relevance of certain aspects of this new and increasingly important linguistic field for Classical Hebrew lexicography. Taking the lexeme ʾakhî as an example, it aims to demonstrate how the new insights that have been gained into the complex structure of taxonomical categories can help to prevent incorrect entries, and, how word content, traditionally indicated by glosses, can be described adequately.
