Abstract:
The redox behaviour of ferrocene and N,N´-Bis(ferrocenoyl)diaminoethane were studied in two commonly used non-aqueous solvents (acetonitrile and propylene carbonate) by means of cyclic voltammetry. For both substrates, macro- and ultramicroelectrodes were used, for the analysis of ferrocene in proylene carbonate additionally a microelectrode was employed.
The diffusion coefficient of ferrocene in propylene carbonate and the radii of the working electrodes were simultaneously determined by a non-linear optimisation method. The diffusion coefficient of ferrocene in acetonitrile was calculated.
For N,N´-Bis(ferrocenoyl)diaminoethane the number of transferred electrons and the diffusion coefficient were determined simultaneously by a combination of the data obtained from macro- and ultramicroelectrodes experiments.
