Kunst als kontemplativer Raum. Das künstlerische Werk der Anni Albers

Abstract

Die Künstlerin Anni Albers wird in der Forschung im allgemeinen dem Bereich der Textilkunst zugeordnet, obwohl ihr künstlerisches Schaffen weit darüber hinaus von Bedeutung ist. Findet sie in der Literatur Erwähnung, dann im Kontext des Bauhauses und der dort ansässigen Webereiwerkstatt. Erst durch ihre Emigration in die USA konnte dort eine Rezeption ihres Werkes einsetzen, die Anni Albers in einen komplexeren Zusammenhang stellt. Ihre künstlerische Position umfassend in seiner Bedeutung darzustellen, sie auf der Höhe ihrer Zeit und aus sozialgeschichtlichen Aspekten einzuordnen, ist Ziel dieser Arbeit. Das Leben und das künstlerische Schaffen von Anni Albers – sie lebte von 1899 bis 1994 – umfasste nahezu ein Jahrhundert. Von den 1920er Jahren ausgehend war sie bis in die 80er Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts künstlerisch tätig. Sie begann ihren Weg als Künstlerin in einer Zeit, die der Frau in der Kunst kaum eine wirkliche Position und Möglichkeit bot und sie wählte ein Medium, das Weben, das bis dahin nicht als Kunst anerkannt wurde, sondern als handwerkliche und insbesondere weibliche Beschäftigung galt und in den Bereich des Kunsthandwerkes eingeordnet wurde.

Anni Albers, in research is classified generally as a textile artist, although her work is of a much further significance. In literature she is only mentioned in relation to the Bauhaus and the weaving workshop. Due to her immigration to the USA a reception of her work was initilized lifting her in a extensive context. The aim of the dissertation is to describe the oeuvre of Anni Albers in an all sourrounding manner, to make comparisons with artistic developments of her time and to categorize it in terms of socio-historical aspects. Life and oeuvre of Anni Albers (1899-1994) covered almost a century: Her work as an artist started in the 1920 and lasted until the 1980ies. She started her career in a time which did not offer any opportunity to female artists and she chose weaving as a medium that wasn´t considered as art so far, but as a artifical and especially female occupation which was regarded as arts and crafts.
