Abstract:
The main focus of the project was the investigation of the stratified modern and early-modern findings (from 2nd half of the 15th century through the first half of the 19th century) of the Chemnitz Rathauspassagen excavation, carried out in 1994/95, with emphasis on ceramic tableware. At present, existing research generally indicates a lack of systematically evaluated findings for this time period in Chemnitz and/or in Saxonia. Therefore the publication of the related material represents a central point of the project.
Furthermore, the demonstration of chronological development tendencies of the ceramic tableware of modern and early-modern periods was one of the priority goals. To achieve this, all relevant findings were arranged chronologically, taking into consideration their stratified conditions, and fixed with the aid of independent absolute data. As a result, an opportunity to discuss questions relating to the function and origin of the ceramic tableware and to examine their significance regarding previously existing social structures in Chemnitz were realized.
