Abstract:
Staging systems are widely used for classification of chronic sinusitis disease.
In a prospective study, 73 patients (53 male, 20 female, aged between 10-76 years) were examined using multi-slice CT.
The CT scans were graded independently by two experienced readers according to Harvard and Lund scores, and a newly developed Tübinger- Score. Clinical refer-ence was established using questionnaires based on the SNOT-20 GAV.
The Harvard score proved to be a less suitable staging system. Lund Score and Tübinger Score offered a comparably favourable result. The Tübinger score showed a slightly better correlation to patient symptoms.
A finally developed "simplified Tübinger Score" showed an equally favourable result. This score had a much faster practical application and easier handling, and is there-fore recommended as a staging system for chronic sinusitis.
