Abstract:
Our discussions on goals, contents and method of criminological research assume a political impact which in reality is lacking, so that the permanent call for high ethical standards - „be value free“ or „partial and against state control on information“ - mainly serves the interests of the researchers themselves. The results of research influence criminal policy generally slowly through socializing and legitimization processes, building up a general pattern of mind, which only seldom mirrors the original coutcome of research; nonetheless these products are needed for our individual balance of identity, enforcement of norms and stabilization of power. Today th fiscal crisis opens up a more immediate third channel of influence, if the researcher with his projects engages in the actual ongoing policy struggle, while abandoning the defense-notion of a planned monolithic criminal policy of a compact overwhelming state.
