Inhaltszusammenfassung:

Abstract:

This article draws on legal cases involving unmarried pregnant women and the men who made them pregnant to explore the relationship between the court of justice in the countryside at the end of Early Modem period (18th century) and those who had recourse on it. Manorial patrimonial courts lacked the necessary power to bring their subjects to book. Courts had no source of information other than what was reported to them from the villages. Moreover, the rural population used the court as an authority and forum for the solution of conflicts within the village.
