dc.description.abstract In this cumulative thesis, three studies investigated potential regulators of insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion, the two main pathophysiological contributors in the development of type 2 diabetes. The research project addressed the questions if insulin sensitivity or insulin secretion can be improved by modulating the autonomic nervous system in healthy persons and if interscapular fat is a clinically relevant fat depot with regard to insulin sensitivity, insulin secretion and glucose metabolism. en
